Two more comfortable defeats and today against a Durham team missing a lot of their main players. When was the last time we won against a county other than Leicstershire who are c**p? Only Haq seems to be able to keep the runs down, the rest of the bowlers are getting smashed in every game. We can't even use the excuse that it is a really young team any more with McCallum and Watts back in the side

Nick,
1. Davey was born in Scotland.
Mommsen, though he wasn't born here, has been developed to a large extent through our system - when he moved here he obvioulsy wasn't good enough to jump straight in into the Scotland team.
Tom Cooper, on the other hand, was not born in the Netherlands, not did he learn his cricket there. He has only a superficial connection to the country.
So yes, Mommsen and Davey are both Scottish, and they're a lot more Scottish than Cooper is Dutch.
2. Fair enough, but he did contribute to an extent, and it is his presence in the middle order, along with ten Doeschate when available, that makes the Dutch batting look better than ours.
3. Is that the same Bukhari that was born in Pakistan by any chance? Not that this is unusual, they typically have 2, maybe 3 in their team who was actually born in the Netherlands. You have to concede that cricket looks much more sustainable here.
Shane took the 3 early wickets in one game which largely set up the win, of course he was backed up by the other bowlers, but I was drawing the comparison with Butterworth who has contributed absolutely nothing to our Pro40 campaign so far.
4. Removing the overseas, they have 5 semi-centurians to our 3 after 4 games. I'm not denying that they have done much better than us but ... I'm not worried. We'll find out in a few weeks time when they come here.

@ Chris. ' I wouldn't feel too disheartened by how much better than us Netherlands seem to be, bear in mind that their overseas player has bowled well for them, and a lot of their runs have come from Tom Cooper who doesn't really count as Dutch!'
1. seems to me that the scottish have got a few runs from Momsen and Davey. scottish?
2. Tom Cooper scored a fantastic hundred at Lords but didnt contribute much to the Netherlands two wins.
3. Bhukhari has been the pick of the dutch bowlers, not the overseas who has been expensive.
4. The Netherlands have 6 different batsmen (Barresi, Cooper, Szwarczynski, Mott, de Grooth and Borren) who have scored a half century or better in 4 games, plus Bhukari who has only been dismissed once making 82 runs at a strike rate of 145.

Nicky, didn't mean to put the boot into Ricky but there are barriers to school cricket in the state sector a few of which are (1) juniors have 8 weeks while seniors only have 2 weeks after SQA exams (2) expensive sport to equip and staff for already reluctant head teachers (3) state schools often have no pitch and are reliant on clubs to assist (4) the couple of clubs who do assist have schools play daytime only weekdays as members and club teams have the square and nets evenings and weekends (5) the summer holiday eats the season in half (6) council funding for football but only 2 council run pitches in the city one of which is covered in football goalposts until the end of May (7) interested staff with no umpiring ability (8) the weather (9) kids out of school in late August would be a no-go for most head teachers (10) etc etc!
I do agree more could be done and more schools could make an effort (as pretty much every school would be able to scratch together a cricket team) and clubs should be to the forefront in finding enthusiastic kids to develop.

Warwickshire will be indebted to Ryan Flannigan for his match losing innings, allowing them to creep over the line yesterday.
I'm also not convinced Drummond knows what he's doing with his bowling changes, some pretty odd decisions in all the games.
I'm not sure I agree with Peter though, I think for the first time in a while, we have 4 batsmen in our middle order capable of getting big runs, even before you add Coetzer to it, and possibly the best tail we've ever had. We're losing games in the first 8 overs of each innings though. It's incredibly predictable. Opposition race off at above 6 an over, maybe for the loss of one if we're lucky; we trundle at barely 4 and lose the compulsary 2 wickets. The management must realise this, they just need to do something about it. I fancy Goudie as an opener myself. Batting that is. Batspeed like that is wasted coming in at 9, get him in at number 1!
Whoever opens the batting in the next game, they could do with some advice Paul!

Tony I would say the decline in standards has helped a guy like Ricky stick around. He was a good bowler but never an athlete and watching him last season when was leading Uddy to defeat :) he was so awful in the field and he bats 11 'cos there ain't a 12!! He should support your schools association instead of giving soundbites to the press. But its Uddy he captains, so he won't, not when he can poach someone elses players!!
On the other hot topic, I say give Maiden a chance for a bit longer. You cannot judge the plan as failing if his 'keeping has been tidy and its runs leting him down. We will get a look at him in his new role when the games at the Grange start. The boy can play, we have known this for years. Let him get back into form with the bat before making a judgement call. Smith and Petrie (in that order) are ready to come back in if the experiment really does not work. Smith is a cert in I-Cup with Dougie Lockhart retired so its only in t20 and one day cricket we have to consider who is best suited. Does Smudger get enough runs fast enough to be a t20 'kepper/batsman?????
