Action from Brazil v CHileThe 8th South American Championships commenced today at the Sao Paulo Athletic Club in Brazil, with the first-time SAC hosts taking on Chile. Brazil won the toss and chose to bat on a warm, sunny morning.

After losing one opener in the 2nd over, Brazil lost wickets regularly and were unable to build any significant partnerships. A few batsmen made promising starts but failed to go on with it in what was, overall, a very rusty batting performance. In the 32nd over, the last batsman fell with the total at 102.

The disciplined Chilean attack was led by Tristan Bradbrook (3 for 19 off 7.1 overs) and well-supported by a solid fielding display.

Chile set about the job of scoring around 2.5 runs an over in a sensibly steady fashion. They went to lunch at 1/20 from 10 overs. After the break, opener Ian Walker (42) played a key role in guiding Chile to a relatively comfortable win. There was a bit of a wobble towards the end, but Brazil simply didn`t score enough runs. Chile passed their total in the 36th over with 4 wickets to spare. Walker was awarded man-of-the-match after batting for the bulk of the innings on a difficult pitch.

  • Chile beat Brazil by 4 wickets.
