Two players have been officially reprimanded and warned about their future conduct following an altercation that took place during the Pepsi ICC World Cricket League Division 7 tournament in Guernsey.

Christian Rocca from Gibraltar and Bahrain’s Imran Sajjad were both charged under Level 1.4 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Team Officials which relates to “using language that is obscene, offensive or insulting”.

The incident happened during a match between the two sides at the KGV ground in Guernsey on Tuesday and was reported by on-field umpires Niels Bagh and Paul Baldwin as well as third umpire Richard Smith.

Afterwards, match referee David Jukes convened hearings to deal with the issue. In both cases, Mr Jukes found the language to have been used by the individual players to have been offensive and falling below the acceptable standard. Both players pleaded guilty to the charge and apologised to each other for their actions.

“Both players failed to meet the prescribed standard of behaviour which was set out in the pre-tournament captains meeting,” said Mr Jukes.

“Having both recognised their shortcomings in this respect by pleading guilty and apologising they have each received an official reprimand and have been warned of their future conduct.”

Present at Imran’s hearing was the player, the match referee, the two on-field umpires, Bahrain team manager Mohamed Abul and Bahrain coach Mohsin Kamal.

Present at Rocca’s hearing was the player, the match referee, the on-field umpires and Gibraltar coach Rich Askew.
