PNG and Vanuatu will head to Canada to participate in the ICC U/19 Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2009 after resounding wins in the final round of the 2009 Pepsi ICC EAP U/19 Cricket Trophy in Port Moresby, PNG.

At Colts Ground, Vanuatu won the toss and elected to field against Japan, hoping to knock the Japanese over cheaply in search of a much-needed net run rate boost. But the Japanese had other ideas early on, with Captain Shunichi Futatsugi scoring freely and helping his side to 56-1. From there, it was a similar story for the Japanese team, losing regular wickets to eventually be bundled out for 82.

Vanuatu set about scoring the runs as quickly as possible, promoting Trevor Langa to the top of the order. However Langa departed early thanks to a spectacular catch from Futatsugi at short cover.

From there, it was all Vanuatu, with Kalworai (27) and Kenneth (24) hitting to all corners of Colts Ground, getting Vanuatu home in just 10.3 overs.

At Amini Park, Fiji won the toss and elected to field, with plans to knock over PNG quickly and chase down the required runs in quick time to help their net run rate jump above Vanuatu.

However, the Garamuts had other ideas and batted with poise and resilience under pressure from Fijian pace duo Viliame Manikatoga (2-47) and Tukana Tavo (1-35). Lega Tau (39) and Sese Bau (37) again made excellent contributions at the start of the innings, and with the middle order all getting good starts, the side was able to reach a competitive 196.

Fiji had the calculator out and concluded that these runs needed to be overhauled within 32 overs, and steeled themselves for an all out attack against a fired-up Garamuts, who in turn were not willing to give up an inch.

However, Fiji was never really in the hunt, with Raymond Haoda Junior (2-7 from 8 overs), Toua Tom (2-19) and Charles Amini (3-23) doing the major damage for the Garamuts, bundling out for Fiji for a disappointing 67.
