An exciting era for cricket in Hong Kong is about to commence with the announcement of a new franchise Twenty20 competition to be played at Mission Road.
The Hong Kong T20 Blitz will be played over the weekend of May 28 & 29 and open up opportunity for businesses in Hong Kong to run their own Twenty20 cricket franchise.
Four franchises - Hong Kong Island, Kowloon City, Sha Tin and Lantau will be up for sale with ownership to be determined by a silent bid auction.
National squad players will be drafted evenly across the four teams with an HKCA U/19 player also provided to each franchise.
Hong Kong Marketing and Commercial Director Max Abbott said the new competition was being launched with an eye on the future.
"This season will just be the start of something that we think has the potential to grow into a major league in future seasons," Abbott said.
"In true Hong Kong style this first edition will be fast paced, with seven matches played over a weekend."
"All matches at Mission Road will be streamed live, so it will be an opportunity to showcase the talent we have domestically. And hopefully we may see some overseas players as well."
"Franchise owners will get to come up with their own team nickname, design their playing kits and pick the players they want, so I'm looking forward to seeing some creativity from the community."
The four teams will play each other once, with the final scheduled for 2.45pm on Sunday 29th of May.
Tickets for the event will go on sale at the beginning of May.
