Waringstown batsmen Adam Dennison and Greg Thompson proved their class as the Northern Knights beat the North West Warriors in yesterday's inter-pro at The Lawn.

Dennison's 73 almost saw his side rein in what was to prove a reduced chase as the rain arrived at 5.35pm. The teams were able to resume and conclude an enthralling game as the Knights reached their revised target of 235 with two balls to spare.

Although his younger clubmate top scored for the Knights, Thompson's 44 from 22 balls was a game-changing knock.

At the interval, it felt like a partnership of 95 - in just 13 overs - led by captain Andy McBrine might have paved the way for the Warriors.

The Donemana man top scored with 66 while his club colleague Ricky Dougherty, his accomplice in that big stand, contributed a very valuable 60.

Their efforts were key to the visitors setting their hosts a very testing target of 271.

Robert McKinley, who would later hit the winning runs, claimed three scalps as did clubmate Nikolai Smith.

Although this was a dead rubber with Leinster Lightning already crowned champions, both teams were keen to put down a marker ahead of the three-day game which starts this morning in Comber.
