A dominant all-round display from Pieter Seelaar saw VOC to victory in the relegation/promotion playoff against VVV. Seelaar top-scored with 75 as VOC posted 195-9 from their 50 overs before taking 6 wickets for 30 from his ten overs as VVV fell 61 runs short in reply.
VVV won the toss and invited their hosts to bat first in what was for them a must-win encounter, already trailing 1-0 in the best-of-tree series having lost he opener by six wickets at home the previous Sunday.
The early wickets of Tim Ruyters and Dirk van Baren gave the vistitors hope, but Maarten van Ierschot and Seelaar together added another 77 runs for the third wicket before van Ierschot departed for 44. A flurry of wickets then saw VOC stumble from 111-2 to 132-6, and a disciplined effort from VVV kept a lid on the scoring. Seelaar would go shortly after, but Rene van Ierschot and Umar Baker added some useful runs down the order to get the hosts to a total of 195.
The target looked chaseable at the break, and VVV openers Chaudary and Khan started positively with a 37-run opening stand, but that would prove to be their best partnership of the day. Van Ierschot held a sharp return catch to remove Khan, before Seelaar's left arm spin took five wickets in succession to put VVV effectively out of contention.
VVV's keeper Akram resisted for some time, top scoring for the visitors with 28, but would become Seelaar's sixth and final victim having dragged hi side to triple figures. Umar Baker then wrapped up the tail, VVV bowled out for 134 with 8.1 overs remaining.
The win means VVV miss out on promotion to the expanded Topklasse next season, whilst VOC retain their spot alongside the returning HBS and Topklasse debutants Punjab Rotterdam.
