Wasim and van Schelven recieve their caps

Former Pakistan Test batsman Mohammad Wasim made his debut for the Netherlands senior team today, having been called up as cover for injured captain Peter Borren. Wasim flew out last night to join the Dutch in Glasgow where they are playing a three match one-day series against Scotland, after Borren was ruled out due to a long standing shoulder injury aggravated by a strained neck.

Wasim, who played 18 tests and 25 ODIs for Pakistan between 1996 and 2000 and has two test centuries to his name, recently acquired Dutch nationality after living in the country for several years - playing his cricket for Sparta 1888 and more recently Dosti Amsterdam. Wasim has been a regular for the North Holland Hurricanes in the North Sea Pro-Series this season and turned out for Netherlands A two weeks ago in the Continental T20 Championship in Schiedam.

Also making his senior team debut for the Netherlands today is Quick Haag's young spinner Thijs van Schelven, who was on the field yesterday as a sub for Borren. Van Schelven has also been involved in the pro-series, representing the Seafarers, as well as a regular fixture in the Netherlands A side.
