THIS week we’ll take a look at how the Irish players did in the season as a whole – over the three Second XI competitions.

Stuart Poynter was joint best wicket-keeper in the 2nd XI Championship with 30 dismissals in eight matches (26 ct, 4 st) tied with Notts’ Ahmad Shafique who played two games more. Poynter was top on his own with 11 dismissals (6+5) in the T20 competition and second placed in the one-day competition, the Trophy, with 11 victims (5+6) in seven games.

In the 3-day championship, Graeme McCarter was actually leading batsman with 32.00, although Poynter was leading run scorer (354 @ 29.5 including four 50s) followed by Andrew Balbirnie (216 @ 27.0 with two 50s).

Paul Stirling finished 4th overall in the 50-over Second XI Trophy averages (albeit with just two innings of 110 and 12no) behind Warwickshire’s Hong Kong born wunderkind Sam Hain who made two hundreds and 50 in his three innings before doing something similar in the county championship.

Stu Poynter is the only Irishman to make the top 20 of the averages in any format, his 57.66 was good enough to finish 18th in the T20 tables.
