IBIZA DOWN ALFAS YOUNG GUNS

IBIZA REPORT-SUNDAY

Sunday's game against the second XI was totally different with Alfas fielding an emerging side boasting several of Spain's top youngsters.Alfas scored well but too slowly and our bowling and fielding was right on the money to restrict them to 161 from their 40 overs.

We achieved the target in the 38th over with 3 wickets to spare. It was a great team effort from us with Robin Parmeter and Martin Cooper being the standouts with a 60 run partnership to take the team within touching distance, and two cover drive boundaries by Martin at the business end of the game will be remembered for years to come.

Any victory over an Alfas team has to be earned and this capped off a fantastic season for Ibiza Cricket Club on the pitch, winning 8 matches whilst losing only 6, and also bringing home the Balearic Cup for the first time in 17 years. Many thanks to all of those who have played, supported and helped us over the last season, and we go into 2008 with confidence.

SPORTING ALFAS

Sunday 11 November    Sporting Alfas C.C. 161-7    Ibiza C.C. 162-7

The Alfas 2cd XI season against visiting teams was brought to a close with a defeat at the hands of Ibiza C.C. The visitors, strengthened by the inclusion of Alfas player Climent, eventually prevailed in a closely fought match with two overs of the game remaining.

Batting first, the Alfas team that included five junior players, lost three early wickets by the time the score had reached twenty-eight. At this point the junior pair of Seekings and Muñoz came together and featured in a fourth wicket stand of eighty-two, before the former was dismissed for thirty-seven. Although the slow scoring rate was always going to mean that Alfas would only reach a modest total, this was a very creditable effort by the two youngsters. Following the dismissal of Muñoz for an excellent sixty, the final total was pushed to 161-7 at the end of the allotted forty overs. For Ibiza, Harvey and Parmenter each claimed two wickets.

In reply, Ibiza lost an early wicket before the score was taken to forty-six, at which point Climent departed having made a brisk thirty-one. The initial scoring rate always gave the visitors the edge and with useful contributions from Cooper (33), Bamforth (26) and Parmenter (23), Ibiza secured a three wicket victory. For Alfas, Marriner and Muñoz each claimed two wickets and Sunderland produced eight economical overs to claim 1-26.
