The ICC World Twenty20 involved 35 matches played at Chittagong, Dhaka and Sylhet. The seedings were based on the ICC T20I rankings as of 8 October 2012; the top eight sides from the 2012 World Twenty20 in Sri Lanka 2012 proceeded directly to the Super 10 stage while Bangladesh and Zimbabwe, which finished outside the top eight, participated in the first round that will be held from 16-21 March. In the first round the teams were divided into two groups of four teams each, with the table-toppers progressing to the Super 10 stage.
