When a team loses after they have already qualified for a major tournament, the defeat is often put down to complacency. But Papua New Guinea beat Ireland because they were the better team.
The Under 19 World Cup Qualifier consists of hosts Ireland, Afghanistan, Canada, Kenya, Namibia, Nepal, Papua New Guinea, Scotland, USA and Vanuatu, playing each other in a round-robin league. The top six sides from this tournament will qualify for a place at the ICC Under 19 Cricket World Cup to be held in Australia next year. The 10 ICC Full Members automatically qualify.
The 45 matches will be played at 14 venues in the Leinster and North West Cricket Union regions of Ireland.
28 July - 1 August: Rounds 1-4 (Leinster)
3 August - 9 August: Rounds 5-9 (North West)
