The weather in Denmark has been dry and sunny for the last three weeks which meant Svanholm Part was dry and fast and the wicket being more suited for batting. The Danes won the toss and chose without hesitation to bat. Frederik Klokker had managed to arrive in time as he was not needed for Derbyshire's match against Warwickshire and he put his mark on the match by scoring another century (119) and sharing a record opening stand of 212 with Michael Pedersen (81).
These two had laid the foundations of total beyond 300 but the Danish middle order lacked concentration and incentive giving the Dutch easy wickets. Only former captain Carsten Pedersen reached double figures (34) as the Danes ended with 264 in their 50 overs. Tim de Grooth was the only Dutch bowler that made inroads taking 5 for 43.
Even though Denmark had an early breakthrough when Ierschot was caught behind Tim de Groth and P. Bakas scored quick runs together and put the pressure back on the Danes. It was only when the Danish spinners Bobby Chawla and Michael Pedersen came on were the brakes applied. Peter Borren and G. Mol kept the momentum going but it was Lars Hedegaard who finally orchestrated the Dutch downfall as he took 5 wickets removing the lower Dutch order as well as Bakas for 69 from 132 balls.
But the going was close, perhaps too close for the Danes as the Dutch went into the last over needing twelve. Peter Seelar did score a boundary but was caught at mid-wicket going for the runs on the fourth ball. Lars Hedegaard took 5 for 40 off 6.4 overs.
Another milestone was passed at this match as Carsten Pedersen played his 80th match for Denmark beating Aftab Ahmeds run of 79 matches. Thomas Hansen has passed 75 matches but his old knee injury has recurred keeping him out against The Netherlands while Frederik Klokker has already passed 50 matches for Denmark.
Today's victory was the first home victory over the Netherlands since 1972.
