China

The organising committee for the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou has revealed some of its plans for the first cricket tournament at the event. A permanent stadium with a square consisting of eight turf wickets will be constructed, along with two training grounds with four turf wickets each, at a total cost of US$7 million.

The tournament itself will consist of the four Asian ICC full members, China, and three qualifiers for both a men's and women's event. The men's qualifiers will be decided at next year's ACC Twenty20 Cup, whilst a qualifying process for the women's event has yet to be announced. Currently, the next three highest ranked women's teams in the region are Hong Kong, Malaysia and Nepal.

Other news

The controversial age-testing procedures that led to all but two teams being thrown out of the ACC's Under-15 Cup last year is set to be scrapped by the ICC after their own medical council at a meeting in Dubai revealed that the margin of error in the test can be as high as two years and that it was "absolutely unscientific". Passports and birth certificates will be used instead.
