Glostrup and Skanderborg met in the Championship playoff on a coolish sunny day in Glostrup with plenty of spectators who were served with a tense low scoring match on a heavy ground that made scoring difficult.

With so much at stake the toss became so important if not decisive as many thought. Glostrup would without doubt bat first as to avoid the nerves of batting second which lost them the game the week before, while Skanderborg, who hadn't expected this match, would also bat first if only to pressurize Glostrup. Glostrup had also changed captains for this game with David Borchersen taking over again and also brought in their veteran coach ole "Stan" Mortensen who still can bowl a mean ball. Glostrup won that toss and batted first.

Skanderborg knowing that Glostrup always try to bat aggressively, opened with their best bowling attack with the Hedegaard brothers. They did slow Glostrup down to start with but Glostrup were good in keeping the singles going. Skanderborg made no breakthrough until a bowling change when Martin Jensen holed out to deep cover. It soon became apparent that the wickets fell when batsmen went for the big shot leaving Glostrup in trouble at 53 for 3. Henrik Hansen stabled the ship for a while and just as if he was going for a big score he slipped turning back and was run out. His 30 was the top score of the innings as Skanderborg took wickets regulary. Glostrup kept the singles and twos going which meant they ended on a 150 for 9 after the 50 overs. Soren Kirk was the most succesful bowler with his flightet offspin taking 3 for 28 in his 10 overs.

Now Glostrup was a big ground so 150 should not be such a difficult target for Skanderborg but they hadn't banked on Ole Mortensen opening the bowling. Since it was a vital game he extended his runup and bowled at a fair pace considering he has just past 50. Ole's outwingers were so effective he pegged the openers down and removed Slebsager who failed to score. He then removed Carsten Pedersen ending his spell of 10 overs with 2 for 14. Skanderborg failed to do what Glostrup did and keep the scoreboard ticking with singles. Instead they tried their usual formula of going for boundaries and this cost them vital wickets. Aftab Ahmed removed the middle batting order leaving Skanderborg at 57 for 6. Only Morten Hedegaard kept Glostrup at bay topscoring with 30 but nobody else could support him. Spinner Anders Rasmussen mopped up the tail and as Morten was run out the game was virtually over. The final pair held on for a few overs but when Morten Zilmer was finally caught all hell broke loose as 5 years of frustrations were finally over. Skanderborg were all out for 121.

Denmark's chairman presented the cup to captain David Borchersen and said the best team won but he did give Glostrup a warning as Glostrup can hardly field a youth team. They would have to pull their socks up as playing in the Elitedivision and the 1 st division necessitates having at least one youth team pointing to all the kids running round. The local council representative then added that the speech which was composed years ago for when Glostrup became champions had been lost but perhaps it was a good thing after all.

Just a couple of miles away AB and Albertslund played for the right of being in the Elitedivision in 2009. Albertslund made a capable 177 against the present Elite side but it turned out to be far too little, as AB passed with ease using only 27 overs and 4 wickets. This underlined there is still a big difference between the two leagues. This was another failed attempt from Albertslund. Perhaps they have the curse now?...
