The final nail may have been driven in Bermuda Cricket Board's (BCB) Open League coffin as apathy towards the longer version of the game descended to a new low yesterday when all seven matches failed to get underway due to reasons ranging from field closure to player shortages and no-show umpires.

At Southampton Oval, the Premier Division match between Southampton Rangers and St.George's did not get underway as the home team failed to turn up, for the second time in three weeks, forcing the umpires to call off the match.

Umpires also called off the match at Lords after only six players from Devonshire Recreation Club turned up to play against hosts St. David's while the match at St. John's Field involving Western Stars and Willow Cuts was also scrapped as Cuts players failed to show.

Elsewhere, the Premier clash at Devonshire Recreation Club between Young Men's Social Club and Bailey's Bay did not get underway as the pitch was not prepared for play.

Yesterday's First Division schedule also suffered the same fate as the game at Somerset Cricket Club involving hosts Somerset and PHC was not played due to the absence of umpires while the contest between Cleveland and Warwick at Wellington Oval was not played as the venue is now understood to be closed for the remainder of the season.

The match between Police and Flatts at Police Field also failed to get underway as the hosts could not field a team.
