Oman were always the favourites to win this tournament and show that their performance in the 2006 ACC Trophy was a blip on an otherwise decent record.

And they showed just why they were the favourites with a dominating performance against Bhutan in the final. Bhutan won the toss and put Oman into bat. Whilst Oman did lose wickets quite regularly, one batsman stayed in to anchor the innings, Adnan Ilyas, who scored 138 from 118 balls before he fell with the score on 252/5 in the 39th over. Awal Khan scored 32 to anchor the lower order and help Oman to a total of 322/9 from their 50 overs.

Bhutan didn't help their cause by giving away 37 runs in extras, 27 of them in wides. In reply, Bhutan were never really in the hunt. Kumar Subba scored 40 opening the batting, but only two other Bhutanese batsmen reached double figures as they were bowled out for just 109, losing by 213 runs.

Hemal Mehta and Awal Khan both took three wickets each for Oman. In the third place play-off, Thailand were beaten by the Maldives by eight wickets after being bowled out for 60. After a good performance in the group stage, Thailand will be disappointed with their fourth place finish.

Both finalists have qualified for the 2010 ACC Trophy Elite competition, but for Oman the more pressing concern is the World Cup Qualifier in South Africa in April.

They are in what could well be termed the "group of death" with Ireland, Scotland, Canada, Namibia and the runner-up of the World Cricket League Division Three tournament that begins in Argentina this weekend. Coming in off the back of a tournament win, Oman will be hoping to spring a few surprises.
