After Sunday's close match, the second ODI on Tuesday was very much Afghanistan's as they cruised to a relatively simple win. Indeed, had it not been for Eric Szwarczynski and Ryan ten Doeschate, the win could have been even more comprehensive.
The Netherlands won the toss and chose to bat first. They lost the first two wickets quickly with just seven runs on board. Tom de Grooth followed back to the pavilion soon after with the score on 31/3. The Dutch then recovered with a 113 run partnership for the fourth wicket between Eric Szwarczynski and Ryan ten Doeschate before Szwarczynski was out for 65.
Ten Doeschate stayed in for the rest of the Dutch innings, scoring the bulk of the runs with an unbeaten 98. Captain Nowroz Mangal was the pick of the Afghan bowlers with 3/35.
Afghanistan paced their reply perfectly. At the halfway stage they were 102/2 with Asghar Stanikzai having just fallen for 30. Mohammad Shahzad continued scoring the bulk of the runs and was eventually fourth out having scored a fantastic 110 from 111 balls, Afghanistan's first ODI century.
Samiullah Shinwari and Mohammad Nabi then guided their team over the line with a quick 14 run partnership. Mohammad Shahzas was the obvious pick for man of the match.
Future fixtures for both teams are yet to be officially announced, with only the ACC Twenty20 cup for Afghanistan in the UAE in November the only thing confirmed before the World Twenty20 qualifier early next year.
