The ICC today announced that Zimbabwe XI will host Kenya for an ICC Intercontinental Cup 2009-10 match at the Kwekwe Sports Club from 8 to 11 October.
Kenya is second in the ICC Intercontinental Cup points table on 23 points, six points behind leader Scotland while Zimbabwe XI played its only match in the tournament against Afghanistan last month in which it earned three points compared to Afghanistan’s six for a first-innings lead.
The four-day first-class match will be followed up by a three-match ODI series between Zimbabwe and Kenya to be played on 14, 16 and 18 October at the Harare Sports Club.
In the Reliance Mobile ICC ODI Championship table, 10th-ranked Zimbabwe leads 12th-placed Kenya by 25 points.
But Kenya can potentially drop Zimbabwe to 12th position if it wins all the three ODIs. A 2-1 win for Kenya will also be enough to pull Zimbabwe down to 11th position on 20 points but in that situation Kenya would stay 12th. In contrast, if Zimbabwe sweeps the series it will gain four ratings points and will open the gap with Kenya to 29 points.
