Days one and two are dedicated to the 20/20 round robin competition and it was a new look Papua New Guinea who registered the first victory, bowling out Japan for just 20 and then scoring the required runs in 2.5 overs. The Japanese much prefer the longer version of the game but to bat for 17 overs and only score 20 was disappointing.

Fiji smashed a massive 197-6 batting first against Vanuatu, who put up a reasonable reply scoring 154 from 19.3 overs. Joji Bulabalavu and Josefa Rika put on a 69 run opening partnership laying a platform for the fireworks which were to follow. Vanuatu were made to pay dearly for dropping Bulabalavu twice before he had reached double figures as he bashed his way to a score of 90 which featured 5 fours and 8 sixes.

The inexperienced Indonesians nearly caused a boil over against Samoa, scoring 88-9 in their 20 overs and restricting the home side to 50-4 off 14. However, the Samoans recovered and with a late flurry were able to win by five wickets with five balls to spare.

Cook Islands started day one with a comfortable victory against Tonga. The Cooks paced their innings nicely to make 121-5 and in reply Tonga was always in trouble, losing regular wickets to go down by 30 runs.

PNG continued their dominant form in the afternoon round dismissing Cook Islands for 42 and then easing to the target with 15.4 overs to spare and ten wickets in hand. Captain Chris Amini was the best of the bowlers with 3-8.

Japan bounced back from their morning defeat to sneak home against Tonga off the last ball of the match. Mohammad Rizwan and Satoshi Nakano snared three wickets each for Japan and youngster Kensuke Kobayashi scored 29 to see the Japanese home.

Fiji overcame a talented and inform Samoa by four wickets with a little more than an over up their sleeve. Kida Jokoivanualevu took four wickets and top scored for Fiji with 33 to claim the man of the match award.

Vanuatu once again batted well to post 131 against Indonesia, who could only muster 83-7 in reply.
