The Botswana Cricket Association plans to construct an academy this year to nurture young talent and accelerate efforts to have an all-citizen national team.

This is according to BCA spokesman Sumod Damodar in an interview with Mqondisi Dube in the Mmegi Online Newspaper.

Damodar states that the Botswana Cricket Association will now focus on creating "citizen only" national squads in future rather than the mixture of four and seven year qualified and home grown players as has been the case in the past.

The BCA has done a fantastic job in introducing cricket to the indigenous Batswana community in recent years. As many as 60 Government schools are involved in cricket programs in the country.

The Academy will be built in Gaborone and will cost between P3-P5 million or approximately (US) 500,000-700,000.

The association also plans to send promising youngsters to South Africa and Zimbabwe to be coached and play club cricket in the future.
