There was no luck for the two remaining NCU teams in the Irish Senior Cup when the draw for the quarter-finals was made yesterday.

All four games will be played in Dublin and surrounds after Waringstown were drawn away to Leinster Cup holders Clontarf and Civil Service North go to Rathmines to face Leinster.

At least CSN should start with an even chance of making the semi-finals for a second successive season.

While they eased past Lisburn by seven wickets, thanks to a 162-runs opening partnership between Wayne Horwood (85) and Andrew Cowden (48), Leinster needed something special in the final over to see off the challenge of Section One side Muckamore.

With 15 wanted from six balls, that something special was Joe Carroll hitting Avodat Dandekar's first two balls for six, to bring up his century and when Craig Drummond spilled a skyer from the fourth ball, the batsmen ran three to win the match.

But Muckamore will insist that Carroll was caught at the wicket before he had scored, and not given by the umpire, and after that relations between the teams went downhill fast. Dandekar had top scored with 64, Sam Gordon made 59 and Ryan Haire 58 and although Neil Gill followed up with three wickets, a total of 253 was not enough.

Waringstown's game against Co Galway was never expected to be a close contest - and it wasn't. The novelty value was the three Terenure-registered players in the visitors' line-up and they duly finished as the top scorers in Galway's total of 243, Australian professional Ben Speake the best with 59.

But it made no impression on Waringstown's mammoth 358 for five with James Hall bringing up 500 runs for the season before he was dismissed for 125, his third century of the season. Adam Dennison finished 50 not out.

Clontarf were given a fright by Strabane who were in a great position to claim victory at Castle Avenue when they reduced the home side to 120 for six, chasing 236. But Conor Kelly (79) and Ireland international Alex Cusack (39) saw last year's beaten finalists home without further loss. Peter Gillespie top scored for the Red Caps with 57.

It proved another bad day for North West sides with Ardmore and Bready also returning from Dublin after heavy defeats, to end the area's interest in the all-Ireland competition for another year - they haven't had a finalist since 2009.

Ardmore were bowled out for 119 (Andrew Riddles 35) by Pembroke who took nearly 39 overs to knock off the runs for five wickets and Bready had to endure 50 overs of pain as North County matched Waringstown's total for the loss of just three wickets. Professional Brendon Parchment (171 not out) and captain Eddie Richardson (120 not out) put on 251.

At least Bready didn't prolong the game any longer than necessary, bowled out in 16 overs for 71 with only David Rankin (24) reaching double figures before he was one of Richardson's six victims.

North County were rewarded with a home draw against Merrion and in the other all-Leinster tie Pembroke go to Malahide, who knocked out holders The Hills by seven wickets.
