LADIES LEAGUE KICKS OFF ON MONDAY NIGHT

This forthcoming Monday night, May 2nd, sees the return of the North West Ladies League. With a record number of ladies playing in the region , this year is set to be the most competitive to date.

With last years league structure proving a major success, the NWCU has agreed with applying the same rules this season to ensure the ladies still get to play as many games as possible.

The league structure sees each team playing each other once, after which the top four teams will then break away and fight it out for league honours, while the bottom four compete for a Secondary B cup.

All the action begins this Monday evening (May 2) at 6.30pm, with league holders, Strabane Saints playing host to Eglinton.

The Saints are hopeful of defending the title they won in superb fashion last year, whilst Eglinton ladies hope to start the 2016 season with a bang.

Elsewhere, Fox Lodge travel to the Holm to face Donemana. After winning the secondary B cup last season, the Donemana girls are hopeful to aim even higher this season and keep up the high standard.

Another good contest sees Bready set off to face local rivals Killyclooney in a Tyrone derby.

Bready’s skipper, Jemma Rankin is looking forward to getting the season under way.

"This season we hope to improve from the previous season and strengthen the position of ladies cricket in The North West”, said the Bready speedster..

After wetting their feet last year in their first season of Ladies league, Newbuildings are now no longer the “newbies”. They travel to Bonds Glen this Monday night, which is set to be a great contest.

The 2016 season will see more opportunities for girls in the North West; through development squads, coaching workshops and regional game development.

These opportunities are there to assist the development of ladies cricket and to boost participation numbers throughout all clubs.

The Ladies matches will be played every Monday night starting at 6.30pm. All clubs would warmly welcome support throughout the campaign.

We will have a full round-up of all the action each week here on the site, with reports, scorecards and league tables.
