Denmark's run in the European Under-19 Division 2 Championship continued today as they beat the Netherlands in a replay of yesterday's rain curtailed match, in which the home side were well placed to win themselves.
Denmark captain Oliver Hald won the toss and chose to bowl first at the VRA Ground, which soon proved to be a good decision. Sebastiaan van Lent and Bas de Leede were the only Dutch batsmen to reach double figures, scoring 32 and 11 respectively.
Jonas Henriksen was the pick of the Danish bowlers, taking 5-16. He removed both openers and took three wickets later on as the hosts collapsed from 63-3 to 84 all out.
Denmark lost both openers early in their run chase, but otherwise had little trouble chasing down their target. Shangeev Thanikaithasan top scored with 33 as Denmark completed a seven wicket win with almost 30 overs to spare.
Over at Schiedam there was another low scoring contest, with Italy only managing 93 before being bowled out in the 37th over. Only two Italian batsmen reached double figures, with Nic Buckle and Jack Birch both taking three wickets.
Guernsey lost six wickets in their reply, Hashir Iftikhar and Vissal Hussain both taking three wickets each. They were scoring their runs quickly though, perhaps mindful of a potential net run rate calculation on the final day, so knocked off the required runs in just 18.5 overs.
Denmark will now play Guernsey tomorrow, knowing that a win will secure the sole promotion spot. Italy will play the Netherlands in the other game.
