The Dutch will be hoping that today's cricket at Nairobi Gymkhana plays into their hands.
With a lead of 130 on second innings, they will seek to push ahead against Kenya, who got first innings points yesterday, in their Intercontinental Cup match's last three sessions.
Kenya, having gained a 48-run advantage on the first innings, threw it away in yesterday's last session - including missing a run-out that was simpler than a football tap-in -so that Alexei Kervezee and Eric Szwarczynski were able to take the total to 178 without loss.
The home side appeared to be satisfied with their first innings lead - and six points - and their sluggishness in the field almost replicated their poor fielding (five dropped catches, two missed run outs) in the first innings, when Ryan ten Doeschate piled up 212 not out from a total of 385.
Perhaps Uganda's recent Intercontinental Shield match at Abu Dhabi may serve as a precedent for the Dutch.
In that, UAE scored 361 in their first innings, only for Uganda to snatch first innings points by getting 373. But then the Ugandans, like the Kenyans, went off the boil, and UAE were able to declare their second innings on 282 for nine.
At which point the Ugandans succumbed to the UAE's bowling attack and collapsed to 39 for 6.
The UAE were unable to prise out the final four wickets and the Ugandans determinedly hung on. Perhaps the Dutch will have greater success today.
