Heavy rain in the eastern part of Denmark during Saturday washed out all the matches except one where Esbjerg in the West hosted a visit by KB from Copenhagen. As the rain was due later in the day the match was cut back from the start to 45 overs. Esbjerg's pitch has in the past been renowned for helping the bowlers especially early in the day and has caused several very low scores. However the pitch has just been relayed but as usual Esbjerg by habit put the opposition in to bat. Although the captain Peer Jensen swung the ball as usual and cashed in with two early wickets the pitch did not give the bowlers much help and batsmen can now give a sigh of relief. KB's P Sarangal is new to the side and had no knowledge of Esbjerg and treated the bowlers accordingly and helped himself to an array of boundaries plundering 86 of 80 balls. KB reached a decent score of 239 thank also to Farooq's 51.
Esbjerg made their intentions known from the word "go" as Claus Hansen hit the first ball for 6. He had 30 on the board before his partner got off the mark and got himself bowled off a no ball. He got another life when he was stumped and began walking when it was discovered the square-leg umpire had called no-ball. KB broke the wicket to run him out but the umpires called dead ball which fired off a long discussion. Claus Hansen however was out lbw the following over. His replacement Martin Øre continued the big shot mode as Esbjerg continued to keep the run rate ahead of KB's. After Martin was genuinely stumped the Rubin brothers came together and they put on 120 runs for the fifth wicket taking the match out of KB's reach. They kept the scoreboard ticking without taking chances and when Kasper Rubin finally was bowled for 67 the match was Esbjerg's.
KB stayed in Jutland for Sunday's match against titleholder Herning. A shortened match that was played in constant drizzle for most of the day. KB thought they would get home early as they had the best four Herning batsmen back in the pavillion for 39. But they hadn't taken in their account Jakob Larsen who took his chances and hammered 104 and shared a seventh wicket partnership of 123 with Hamad Zaman as Herning finished on 208. KB looked in the running as H.Khan had a better day with the bat but after he was out for 47 the innings fell apart thanks to 4 wickets from captain Michael Pedersen and KB were out for 164. With 2 defeats KB are looking a bit shabby and will have to fight to make sure they stay clear of the relegation area. Husum made sure they are bottom of the Elitedivision as they lost at home to AB. AB were slow starters seeing off Husum's first line bowlers but then cashed in with the second string attack ending up with 179 for 7. This was enough as Husum yet again failed with the bat and were all out for 106.
In the First Division there was drama in Aalborg as the last pair only needed two to win with 2 balls remaining against Kolding but Aalborgs last man was stumped going for the big one. Skanderborg got one match played during their visit to Copenhagen as they faced Hvidovre in rain and on long grass but they did play and Hvidovre received their third defeat as Skanderborg won by seven wickets. Køge faced leaders Ishøj at home and posted a defendable 160 on the board but it was not enough against the in form Ishøj batsmen who lost only three wickets in passing Køge's score. Køge produced 37 extras so it does seem that it was difficult to grip the ball in the wet conditions.
Next week it's Whitsun and the league holds a break while the Cup final is played on Saturday between Svanholm and Herning. Sunday and Monday all the national squads are in action playing two day matches for the first time in the final preparations for the coming summer tournaments.
