Nobody would have dreamed beforehand that KB would succeed against leaders Glostrup when they turned up at Solvangsparken with 5 second XI players but miracles apparantlly do happen. There was no evidence a surprise was under-way when KB batted first and ran into desperate trouble losing 6 wickets with only 39 on the board thanks to spinner Glen Larsen and paceman Aftab Ahmed. However newly returned Daniel Nielsen (35) dug in with Riswan Tabussum(34) and they raised the total to 100 when Mustaq joined in and KB managed the decent score of 161 all out.
Glostrup started aggressively but KB's Yasir Iqbal removed both openers. Aftab Ahmed hit a quick 38 off 40 balls but Daniel Nielsen removed both Martin Jensen and Glostrup's saviour of the past Peter Poulsen for 26. Glostrup were suddenly 80 for 5 and as Glostrup were themselves missing a couple of faces their tail couldn't resist the pressure and suddenly they were all out for 135.
Svanholm were unable to make the big score expected of them against bottom side Husum who usually field a weak side when in Copenhagen but not this time. Husum managed to keep Svanholm to a decent 170 with Hamid Shah being the best contributor with 40 and a good last wicket stand of 24. Although Husum started well none of the recognised batsmen made any headway with only Henning Dau showing any resistance as Husum were skittled for 100.
Herning made sure of a victory to keep breathing down the necks of leaders Glostrup and Svanholm as they bowled out AB for 65. AB were a man short due to a late withdrawal and they couldn't cope with Iylas Saumy's legspinners as he took 5 for 28. Herning however lost five wickets in passing AB's total thanks to 3 wickets from AB's playercoach Satti.
AB continued their weekend in the West by visiting Esbjerg on the Sunday. This was an important tussle in keeping the distance from the bottom of the table. Esbjerg's ground is small and in the summer the outfield is usually lightning fast with high scores but not today. Recent rain had slowed things down and boundaries along the ground were hard to come by. AB batted first and had a good start as Satti and Khawaja put on 68 for the first wicket. However after that wickets fell regularly and 140 was the score when AB ran out of batsmen. Esbjerg can only kick themselves for only getting 91 in reply as several batsmen were guilty in playing loose shots and unable to play Sattis late in-swingers. Four of Esbjerg players fell to lbw, while Satti had 8 no balls.
Husum played their Sunday match against Norrebro who batted first and were bowled out in just 25 overs for 103. Norrebro were on the way to victory as they had Husum in trouble at 59 for 6 but Husumhad Lars Flemming Bold who has played for several Denmark's youth teams but has failed to show his talent as a senior. Today he held the innings together as Husum didn't lose any more wickets in passing Norrebro's total.
In the first division Aalborg were visiting Copenhagen and ran into a heavy defeat against Albertslund on the Saturday but redeemed themselves the day by defeating KB's second eleven. Koge who are having a better season than usual defeated Hvidovre without any difficulty.
Since this was the first weekend of cricket in Denmark since the national side have returned from Jersey one would have expected a flurry of runs as the players would have been in form. This was not the case as the 5 matches should have given 500 overs of cricket. Less than half were used so one would suspect 20/20 cricket has been sneaked in the back door. This was not the case either, as the average score would be only about 40. There is a certain lack of batting quality in the top league and looking forward to the future and the World Cricket League the future isn't bright unless some radical thinking comes to light.
