After a rest day the Americas Under-19 Championship resumed yesterday in Bermuda with the hosts taking on USA at St Davids. Stand in USA captain Sahil Patel - Alex Shoff was being rested due to an injury - won the toss and chose to bat first.
After seeing off the opening bowlers and scoring 35 in their first seven overs, the visitors had no answer to the bowling of Chare Smith and Charles Trott. They both took five wickets as the USA were bowled out for 109. Only the top three batsmen were able to reach double figures.
The Bermuda innings very nearly went as badly as the USA one. Keifer Phill tore through the upper order as they were reduced to 62-7. It took an eighth wicket partnership of 35 between Charles Trott and Shakeal Outerbridge to help avoid a remarkable defeat for the hosts.
Outerbridge became the sixth wicket for Keifer Phill, and one more wicket fell before Bermuda finally wrapped up a one wicket win in the 23rd over. A remarkable match for the bowlers, and one to forget for the batsmen. The tournament continues tomorrow when USA play Canada.
