Tonight the Gibraltar Cricket Association held an EGM at their Irish Town offices with the intention of confirming the move to “Board Limited by Guarantee” status and of nominating a new Board / Committee to drive cricket forward over the forthcoming years.
After nearly 30 years of service to Gibraltar Cricket, Tom Finlayson began proceedings by announcing that he felt this an opportune moment to stand down from an active role in running cricket. His subsequently elected replacement as President, Christian Rocca, made his initial address to thank Tom for all he had done and for the monumental effort that he had put in to keep Gibraltar Cricket robust and sustainable during his time, covering roles including statistician, Secretary, Chairman and President at various times. Tom also offered to continue act as archivist, scorer and website contributor which was appreciated by all.
Ob Bacarese was returned as Vice President, with a dual role of Financial Manager. Two other positions elected were that of Stuart Cornelio, who is likely to cover Secretary duties, and Ian Farrell who is to head up the Cricket Committee and form their link to the Board.
Covering issues at all levels on the pitch the new Cricket Committee will also consist of Iain Latin, Kieron Ferrary and Jay Bokhari. They will be joined by Bob Lomax who has agreed to the key role of liaising with facilities managers and looking after interests of the officials. Existing CDO, Mark Bacarese, will also have a role with these meetings to look after the interests of the junior players.
Once appointed, the new CEO / General Manager will work with both Board and Cricket Committee to ensure that the overall Operational Plan meets expectations and key objectives in the areas of finances, sponsorship, participation, facilities development, education and school / club links.
