Argentina

The Hurlingham Hawks created history in Argentina, becoming the first team to win the "Triple Crown", winning the First Division, Robin Stuart Shield and NEC Cup. Meanwhile, the Argentina national women's side hosted Trinidad & Tobago Under-15 Women for a three match series, losing 3-0.

Bahamas

Coloured clothing has come to domestic cricket in the Bahamas for the first time. A match between Commonwealth and Dockendale at Windsor Park was the first to be played in coloured clothing in the country. All eight teams will play in coloured clothing throughout the season, with all matches played at Windsor Park as the Haynes Oval is under redevelopment.

Bahrain

The Bahrain Cricket League Under-17 tournament was won by Pakistan Urdu School, who beat Indian School in the final by five wickets. Indian School's captain Mohammed Shehzad was named man of the match for his unbeaten 66. Tournament awards saw Imran Amjad of Pakistan Urdu School given the best batsman award, Cyrus D'Souza of Indian School the best bowler, Ajnas Sarfuddin of Ibn Al Hytham Islamic School the best fielder, Samuel Vegas of Indian School the best wicket-keeper and Sankarsh Suresh of Indian School 'B' given the best all-rounder award.

Brazil

April saw saw a visit to Brazil by Indian president Pratibha Patil. Amidst the official functions, it would appear that a deal for the BCCI to help out Brazilian cricket is underway, in return for Brazil helping out the development of soccer in India. The BCCI confirmed through the Indian ambassador to Brazil that they will be sending a coach soon.

Bulgaria

Bulgaria have applied for affiliate membership of the ICC, and their application will be considered at the ICC's annual meeting in Dubai at the end of June. Bulgaria played in the ECC Representative Championship in Slovenia in 2004, losing all five matches.

Canada

The National Cricket Academy will no longer be taking part in the Inter-Provincial competition in King City next weekend, and have been replaced by first time participants Nova Scotia. Cricket does have a long history in that province, having hosted one of the first international tournaments in Halifax in 1874 featuring teams from Canada and Philadelphia. The tournament has been getting some attention in the Canadian media, with mention on CBC, one of Canada's main TV networks.

Cape Verde

Cape Verde, an archipelago off the West African coast in the North Atlantic is attempting to get cricket started in the islands with the help of the British Consulate. Currently 100 senior players and 60 junior players are registered, and a cricket association is in the process of being formed. It is hoped to get a high-level coach capable of speaking Portuguese.

Chile

Domestic tournaments have been reaching their conclusion in Chile recently. The Second Division was won by Las Condes 2nd XI, who beat Santiago 2nd XI by in the play-off final. The same day the clubs' first teams were contesting the Metropolitan Cup final, which Santiago won by 80 runs, becoming just the third team to win the tournament twice.

Estonia

Estonia are one of three teams to apply for affiliate membership of the ICC. Famous for their annual ice-cricket tournament, Estonia's application will be heard at the ICC's annual meeting.

Guernsey

Guernsey have applied for associate membership of the ICC, and the application seems set to be approved at the ICC's annual meeting in Dubai at the end of the month after ICC officials were impressed after a visit to the island. Cricket Kenya chairman Samir Inamdar has invited the Guernsey team to Kenya later in the year to play Kenya A in addition to possible matches against Uganda and Tanzania.

Hong Kong

Clive Howard has resigned as chairman of the Hong Kong Cricket Association after it emerged that he owed the board more than HK$210,000. Howard's official reason for resigning was "pressure with work and family. In better news for the board, 2007 saw a profit of HK$5 million (approx US$650,000) thanks largely to a successful Hong Kong sixes tournament. This contrasts with a HK$490,000 loss in 2006.

Japan

Japan's national side, who have been gaining much media attention both home and abroad recently, will play the MCC at Knebworth as part of their preparations for Division Five of the World Cricket League on the 20th of May. Former England Test bowler Devon Malcolm will spearhead the MCC attack.

Malaysia

Johor won the national Under-17 tournament, beating Selangor by 59 runs in the final.

Rwanada

The national Suffo League, Rwanda's main domestic competition, will be played under full ODI rules, with powerplays, fielding restrictions, etc. for the first time this year. Fifty over cricket has been a rarity in the country, and Rwandan cricket officials are hoping this will help the national side perform better in international tournaments.

Singapore

Singapore whitewashed Malaysia in the Stan Nagiah Trophy series last weekend. They beat Malaysia by 196 runs in the first match, three wickets in the second and 104 runs in the third. This should give them confidence heading into WCL Division Five, where Singapore will be hoping to reach the final and WCL Division Four.

Turkey

Turkey are one of the three applicants for ICC affiliate membership. Their application will be heard at the ICC's annual meeting.

USA

Dallas, representing the North Texas Cricket Association, won the Central West Championship after comprehensively beating hosts Austin in the final. Austin were bowled out for just 69 runs, Carl Thompson taking six wickets. Dallas lost Orlando Baker to the first ball of their run chase, and looked to be struggling on 15/3. But Rahul Kukreti and Nadeem Haroon saw their team home for the seven wicket win.

Cricket is still being played in Philadelphia, the city that produced legendary American players like Bart King and George Patterson. The Philadelphia Cricket Festival finished last weekend. Jonty Rhodes was the guest of honour, and played four matches for the Philadelphia based clubs.

Old Philadelphian clubs Merion, Germantown and Philadelphia CC were joined by two other teams from Pennsylvania - Pittsburgh and British Officers CC, two teams from New York - Australians and Mad Dogs, Anzac Wanderers from North Carolina and Littleton CC from Colorado. Overseas teams came from Canada, with two teams from Toronto CC and the Trinidad and Tobago Under-19 team.

It was the Trinidad team that won the tournament, beating Toronto A in the final by three wickets. Their win was largely down to Mark Brown, who clubbed 24 runs from the penultimate over of their run chase, including one six that sailed over the pavilion and on to the golf course.

Vanuatu

Vanuatu have applied to be promoted to associate status. Their application is dependent on their performance in Division Five of the World Cricket League later this month.
